Rocklyn Inn: A Comfy Stay For A Great Getaway

Nestled in the quiet farming community of Rocklyn, about 15 minutes from Meaford, sits the charming Rocklyn Inn Bed and Breakfast.

The breathtaking views, waterfalls and adventurous hiking experiences of the Bruce Trail are close by and a 20-minute drive will take you to the Beaver Valley Ski Club or Blue Mountain Resort.

The Inn was originally built in 1881, owned by W.H Dodson and called the Lorne Hotel in honour of the Marquis of Lorne, who was then the Governor General of Canada.

On July 12, 1891 the Lorne Hotel was hit by lightning and although no one was injured sadly the buildings were burnt to the ground. The hotel was reconstructed that same year as an exact copy of the original.

Rocklyn was a busy and thriving village between the 1880’s and the 1920’s. The Lorne Hotel located at the main intersection was a centre of activity and remained that way through the early part of the century, filled on fair days and other special occasions with travellers and salesmen visiting regularly.

George Currie and family purchased the hotel in 1908 and operated it until 1926.

The last big event in the hotel was a banquet held December 13, 1926 to honour Grey County Warden, John T. Miller of Rocklyn.

After this event in 1926, part of the hotel became the private home of George Currie’s daughter Barbara Currie who was a school teacher and local historian. The hotel section of the building remained virtually untouched until her death in 1979.

Lesley and Michael Telfser began ownership of the Rocklyn Inn Bed & Breakfast in February 2019. It was previously in Michael’s family as his Aunts & Uncles owned the Rocklyn Inn in the early 1990’s. Lesley & Michael continue to update and renovate the Inn to make it the best possible experience for their guests.

It is equipped with modern amenities, spacious private bathrooms and all keeping the unique character of the home.  Your stay includes a welcome tray with snacks, a fresh country breakfast daily and complimentary Wi-fi.

Lesley is a delightful and friendly host who believes in offering the best customer service to her guests. Michael is a tradesman and licensed Gas Fitter. He is the resident handyman and looks after the tougher tasks and repairs at the Rocklyn Inn B & B.

Lesley & Michael have created a little Ice Cream Shop within their Bed & Breakfast. They are pleased to offer Chapman’s ice cream, coffee, tea, refreshments, snacks, and candy. Complimented with a couple of picnic tables with umbrellas for shade, a bike rack for cyclists and a local A1-Porta Potty Toilet with hand wash sink for customers to use.

The Ice Cream & Snack Shop is open for fall from Friday September 10 until Sunday October 10, 2021, or until the scoops run out.
