Rounds Ranch: Farming Out Fun For All Ages

“Every farm has a story” Geri Rounds likes to say. And Rounds Ranch is no different.

When she and her husband Ken were courting, they probably never guessed just how much  their dream of owning a farm would factor in to their own future story. That dream took flight and, in some respects, today’s Rounds Ranch is a farm that’s different from most others.

Geri met her future husband while at University of Guelph where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics. Ken, who has his degree as well, had also been raised on a farm, as Geri had.

Geri spent 13 years working for Farm Credit Corporation. She and Ken diligently saved money for down payment on a farm.  In 1994 they purchased a chicken farm with over 8,200 laying hens and a grading station, on County Road 92 in Springwater Township.

Over the years they also started growing fruits and vegetables and opened Valley Farm Market. In 1997 they were able to expand their fruit and vegetable production when they purchased a 125 acre farm in Clearview Township. They began getting requests to host events but they did not have sufficient parking.

Whether you want a fabulous day out with the kids, or you want to feel like a child again yourself,  Geri and Ken’s Rounds Ranch is a veritable field of dreams overflowing with fun and adventure for all ages.

This time of the year the biggest attraction is inarguably Pumpkin Mania. You can dig into a list of about two dozen activities, meaning everyone can be kept as busy as they wish, and for hours. How about Slam Dunk Pumpkins or Pumpkin Toss? And Pumpkin Bowling or Pumpkin Hockey certainly sound like a blast!

Saturday nights in October are extra fun with a campfire and the Flashlight Corn Maze. Can you find your way through without getting lost? A pick-your-own pumpkin is included in your admission price.

Flashlight corn mazeThere’s also Ziplines, Jumping Pillows, Wagon Rides, Swinging Tire Horses, and a Low-Ropes Course. Pony rides are available for an additional charge.

Geri says they are also currently adding a Western Town with a General Mercantile, and a Bean Pit. Another project is the landscaping of the pond area which will then be stocked with fish.

Rounds Ranch, is located at 1922 County Road 92 in Elmvale, just 10 minutes from Wasaga Beach and a short drive from Collingwood and Barrie. It is open to the general public from the end of June to the end of October.  They start the season with Summer Fun with a hint of Lavender in June/July, followed by a Sunflower Experience in August/September and finally Pumpkin Mania in September/October. Weddings and Birthday parties round out the list.

Before you go check their website for days and hours of operation and to plan your visit. You can also visit them on social media on Facebook and Instagram
