JSGB thanks Amanda Swick and the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre for letting us know about the guided hikes and canoe and kayak tours available. Photos contributed by Wye Marsh.
The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, the weather is warming. Summer days are fast approaching! With the season changes, spring and summer programming is returning to Wye Marsh. Staff are SO excited to be offering guided canoe & kayak tours once again this summer after a two-year hiatus.
On Saturdays & Sundays, starting May 21, 2022, visitors can explore further with guided hikes and canoe or kayak tours through Wye Marsh! Guided canoe tours take visitors in an 8-10 person voyageur style canoe for a 1 hour tour into the cattails where a Naturalist will comment on the different flora and fauna spotted on the trip. During a 1.5 hour kayak tour each participant is in their own vessel (except for young children) and the group sticks together. Life jackets and paddles are provided, and no experience is necessary. Seeing the Marsh from a canoe offers a different, immersive experience of this beautiful wetland to spot turtles, frogs, and other wetland wildlife!
Visitors can register for a canoe or kayak tour upon checking in at the Visitor Centre. The following schedule is offered on Saturdays & Sundays:
9:15am – 9:45am – Guided Interpretive Hike
10:15am-11:45am – Guided Kayak Tour
2:00pm – 3:00pm – Guided Canoe Tour
3:15pm – 4:15pm – Guided Canoe Tour

For those looking for a more active experience to explore even further, Wye Marsh also offers Kayak EcoTours. This three-hour guided tour will take you well beyond the limits of our walking trails, providing you with the best opportunity to fully explore the beauty of Wye Marsh unseen by many. Participants will kayak in a small group with a Naturalist alongside the cattails and wildlife. Trumpeter Swans, turtles, frogs, waterfowl, muskrats, river otters and more are frequently sighted on these tours. All paddling equipment is provided (including dry bags for your devices to take some amazing photos along the way). No paddling experience is required as staff will review techniques; however it is recommended that visitors assess their physical capabilities before registering for this experience. Guests can pre-register for this experience 2 weeks in advance. For more information, please visit: https://www.wyemarsh.com/Canoe-Kayak-Ecotours
